چکیده

EDITOR: Negative pressure pulmonary oedema is a medical emergency that usually arises from attempted ventilations against an acutely obstructed upper airway, such as the one that occurs during laryngospasm, resulting in transudation of fluid from pulmonary capillaries to the interstitium. Frequently, this occurs in the perioperative period when general anaesthesia is used. Clinicians should promptly recognize this complication and commence appropriate management as early as possible [1–4].

Pulmonary haemorrhage associated with negative-pressure pulmonary oedema: a case report.

Negative-pressure pulmonary oedema caused by upper airway obstruction after tracheal extubation is well recognised, but extensive pulmonary haemorrhage is rare. We report a case of post-extubation, laryngospasm-induced pulmonary oedema with associated pulmonary haemorrhage. The patient required mechanical ventilation with high positive end-expiratory pressure.

Pulmonary oedema of immersion is a rare complication of scuba diving. A case and brief discussion of the differential diagnosis and pathophysiology are presented. Onset of symptoms typically occurs during the dive, and is characterized by dyspnoea, cough and frothy sputum. Spontaneous recovery frequently occurs once the diver leaves the water. If investigated, the findings are of hypoxaemia and...

Negative pressure pulmonary oedema after septoplasty.

Negative pressure pulmonary oedema (NPPO) is an anaesthetic complication due to acute obstruction of the upper airway, whose main cause is laryngospasm. The pathophysiology involves a strong negative intrapleural pressure during inspiration against a closed glottis, which triggers excessive pressure in the pulmonary microvasculature. Although its diagnosis can be difficult, its recognition help...

This is caused by repeated, very forceful inspiratory manoeuvres against an...

Negative pressure pulmonary oedema: a rare case report of two brothers.

Negative Pressure Pulmonary O/Edema (NPPE) is potentially life-threatening and it is a general anaesthesia side effect. We are mentioning a rare case report of two brothers who were referred to our hospital for elective surgeries (varicocele and septoplasty) in a 3 years period. Both of them were athletes and their coagulation factors were disturbed after surgeries. Pulmonary oedema was healed ...
